Special Education

Ensuring our pupils receive the support they need to succeed

At St. Joseph’s National School, we are committed to providing a supportive and inclusive
environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive. Our special education
teachers work alongside the mainstream class teachers to meet the diverse needs of all
learners, ensuring they receive the support they need to succeed.

Our dedicated team of special education teachers offers a range of teaching approaches,
including in-class support (e.g., team teaching), small group work, and 1:1 support. This
flexible approach allows us to tailor instruction to the specific needs of each student,
fostering a learning experience that is both engaging and effective.

In-class support allows students to receive assistance while participating in mainstream
lessons, ensuring they can access the curriculum alongside their peers. For students who
require more focused attention, we provide 1:1 sessions, where personalised strategies are
implemented to address individual learning needs. Small group work encourages
collaboration and peer support, helping students build confidence while working on targeted
skills.

The program addresses a wide variety of learning needs, including literacy and numeracy
challenges, as well as more specific needs related to speech, language, motor skills, and
social development. By offering a range of support strategies and interventions, we ensure
that all students have the resources they need to reach their full potential.

Our goal is to create an environment where all students feel valued, supported, and
empowered to achieve their best.
