Learning about and engaging with nature while developing skills!
School Garden

Gardening plays a central role in the educational and well-being activities in Rehins school. Through the use of our poly tunnel and raised beds, we provide students with hands-on opportunities to engage with nature while developing essential skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). As children sow seeds in the spring and watch them grow throughout the warmer months, they gain a deeper understanding of plant biology, the life cycle of plants, and the environmental conditions needed for healthy growth. This experiential learning fosters curiosity and critical thinking, encouraging students to observe and experiment in ways that textbooks alone cannot achieve.

In addition to its STEM benefits, gardening also plays a significant role in promoting well-being. Being outdoors and involved in growing food helps students connect with the natural world, reducing stress and fostering a sense of accomplishment. As they care for their plants, children learn about responsibility, patience, and the rewards of hard work. Gardening encourages mindfulness and provides a healthy break from the pressures of the classroom, supporting both emotional and mental well-being.

Furthermore, our school garden is a key part of teaching students about healthy eating and sustainability. The produce we harvest is used in our kitchen to prepare nutritious meals, allowing students to experience the full journey of food from seed to plate. This not only increases their awareness of where their food comes from but also encourages them to make healthier food choices and appreciate the benefits of fresh, locally grown produce. By integrating gardening into our curriculum, we are nurturing future generations of environmentally conscious, responsible, and health-aware individuals.
